Judith Nijland Trio (NL) – Carmina Latina

“It is like she revives that language with her excellent jazz singing while turning it into Latin jazz.” – Jazzism

Jazz standards, new songs, a 2000-year-old poem by Catullus and a Chick Corea song. All in Latin. Because Judith once graduated in Greek and Latin. And because she really wants to integrate the beautiful Latin and her love for jazz.

Jazz in Latin:
Carmina Latina is a unique jazz concert in Latin. The Judith Nijland Trio plays jazz standards, like Summertime and The Girl from Ipanema. But also Chick Corea’s Windows, a 2000-year-old Roman poem of the roman poet Catullus and songs they composed themselves. All in the Latin language. Because Judith really wants to integrate the beautiful Latin and her love for jazz.

Judith Nijland:
After graduating in Greek and Latin, Judith studied jazz singing at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She released 6 albums and collaborated with artists like Yuri Honing, Peter Beets, Rob van Bavel and Teus Nobel. She’s been touring many countries in Europe, Indonesia, the U.S.A. and multiple times in Australia, Thailand and Japan.

The band:
Judith Nijland – vocals
Tico Pierhagen – piano
Pieter Althuis – double bass
